Accessibility

Built to be read by everyone.

This statement covers the MetaLume app and the getmetalume.com website. It records what we test, what we measure, and where we have deliberately done something unusual — so you can hold us to it.

Conformance status

This website aims to conform to WCAG 2.2 Level AA. At the most recent review it met that level on every page tested: the home page, the press kit, and this statement, each in English and in Arabic, in both light and dark colour schemes.

The MetaLume app

MetaLume is a native macOS app. Its App Store listing declares support for VoiceOver, Voice Control, a dark interface, differentiation without colour alone, sufficient contrast, and reduced motion. The measurements below are the website's; if something in the app itself does not work for you, the same support link reaches us.

What we test, every release

  • Automated WCAG 2.2 AA checks run against each page in both colour schemes and in a right-to-left language, and must report zero serious or critical issues before we ship.
  • Every piece of text is measured against its actual background; body text clears the 4.5:1 contrast ratio.
  • The page is usable at a 320 pixel width with no horizontal scrolling of the document.
  • Interactive controls are at least 24 × 24 pixels, reachable by keyboard, and show a visible focus ring.
  • Background motion can be paused with one control in the header. Your choice is remembered, and it overrides your system's reduced-motion setting in both directions.
  • Every page declares its language and text direction, in all 15 languages we publish.

Deliberate exceptions

These are choices, not oversights. Each one is recorded here so it can be challenged.

  • Machine data stays in English and left-to-right. EXIF field names, file signatures, hashes and coordinates appear exactly as the app shows them, including on right-to-left pages. Translating or mirroring them would misrepresent the data.
  • The comparison table scrolls sideways on narrow screens. Collapsing it would break the row-by-row comparison it exists to show, so it is a labelled scroll region you can reach and move with the keyboard.
  • The background video behind the headline has no still image. That is deliberate, so it never delays the page's main content from appearing. It is decorative, silent, hidden from screen readers, and covered by the pause control.

Tell us where we fall short

If any part of this site is hard to use, we want to hear it — including if you disagree with an exception above. Reach us through the ProfWorkBench support page: profworkbench.com/#support. Please say which page and what happened.
